HISTORY OF WBS

In 2005, Forbes 500 held a gala in NYC to acknowledge Forbes 500 top business people, entrepreneurs, presidents, owners and CEO's. They acknowledged the top ten up and coming successful individuals who would make waves and lead at the top ten Forbes 500 business people by year 2025. These ten individuals ranged from High Fashion entrepreneurs to a seafood and crab boat owner and everything in-between. These ten individuals decided to work together in a system that would allow them to achieve top ten status while feeding the bold competitiveness that each individual possessed. They brainstormed ideas until Kings Rogers Nelson suggested a sports league with ten teams that would be owned by the ten individuals at the table. After 7 years of gaining city, building, team logo and naming rights and winning a court case and tearing down red tape to build on top of the defunct ABA they were ready to open their doors. After years of excitement and advertisements the WBS had grown following that was hungry for basketball. In 2011, a year before the doors were set to open the owner of the team representing Chicago backed out and with the league hinging on a thread, an unknown buyer stepped in with a proposal to be the tenth investor if they could bring a team to Black Rock Nevada. The stadium would be funded solely by the representing buyer and all rights to the team would belong to the Black ROC investment team and not belong to the WBS. in a 7-2 vote, they accepted the new team and in 2012 The Doors of World Basketball Stars were open to the public.

PREFACE

If you have never played a game like this before, here is a quick introduction to the game and how it functions.

Firstly, this genre of games is a sports management simulation, in which you the player are acting as a team's General Manager / Manager.  You have a boss (the owner of the team) and you have employees (coaches and players).  In this game you must balance keeping your coaches and players happy, while making the moves necessary to achieve goals set for you by your teams' owner.

How you play:

You will apply to any available team, where you will be interviewed based on if the Owner believes you are the right fit for the team. From there, you may or may not already have a coaching staff. Each team will be required to have a Head coach and 3 assistant coaches, which one will be a scouting director. Based on their strengths is how they will help and affect your team. Once you hire a coach, they will hire their own assistants so the coach you hire will be every important.

Scouting is a process in which your Scouting Director will give you a short evaluation of a player's talents and how they will or won't fit in with your team. Any player who is a free agent (without contract for another team) can be negotiated with (via their agent) to sign with your team, and you may also draft rookie players out of the amateur draft. Any players undrafted will then become free agents.

In this game all you do is interact. You talk with coaches, you talk with agents, you talk with players, and you answer questions from the media after each "week" of game play.  Remember though, every post you make has an impact on morale, every decision you make impacts fan support and your GM reputation.  The higher your reputation, the better chance of people seeing things your way, just like in the real world.

This game is designed for you to have to make tough decisions and deal with hard times (that is where the fun of it really comes in) so when you see a new story that makes you have to think about what you will do next, or a star player wants more money than you have to offer, put your thinking cap on and see what you can do. This game is about creativity and critical thinking more so than it is about the ins and outs of baseball.  Remember there is no such thing as an unwinnable situation in this game, just because you don't figure out the way out of the scenario, doesn't mean it was unwinnable.

Play the game at your own pace and have fun. I say this completely understanding that life, children, work etc. take precedence but there is a goal of locking in 3 weeks after teams have been unlocked, that is the key! You may request up to two auto locks with repercussion, but they cannot be back-to-back unless it's absolutely needed for reasons that do not need to be explained to me. You will also be allowed one mulligan at the start of our first inaugural season without penalty, that includes, cap, roster, name, lock in, League Office and agent infraction. If you get fired, wait until a new team has an opening and sign up to continue the fun in the next season!

Also, don't be afraid to ask other players for advice!

I AM NOT A LITERAL, LITERARY OR GRAMMAR NAZI! Unless you are blatantly calling people the wrong name. A misspelled word, a missing comma depending on severity of what is trying to be communicated will have penalties ranging from flavor to game altering actions. This is about FUN!

League Information

LEAGUE
-  The league will run 81 game schedule. Your lock in will consist of 2-3-4 games being played for the week depending on how many games are on the schedule for you that week. You will be given weekly schedules to let you know how many games you will have per week during the unlocking of your threads after each game cycle. Each cycle will Auto Lock at 21 days (3 Weeks) after presser has been released and your threads have been unlocked.(Unless personal emergency. Please stay in communication)

-  Each franchise will consist of a 11 Man Roster you can work with. You will be responsible for setting their roles in the team as whether they are starters, reserves etc. You will also be responsible for understanding their issues and grievances and working out their contracts as well within the confines of a salary cap.

-   Each of player, coach and agent in the league will have a unique personality you will have to deal with.

-   The most important thing about this is having fun, but you will be required to interact with the game as well to make sure it runs smoothly.

IMPORTANT
1. Never edit your post.  If you do so, there will be dire consequences.  If you make a mistake, you make a mistake.

2. You have until you LOCK IN for pre-season of the season in question to be within your budget.

3. All Contracts and Expenditures must be posted in the "League Office"  thread.  Once the deal has been processed by the mod, it will be "edited" showing mod activity.

4. The First Year Player Draft will consist of ? rounds (due to roster size).  You may only trade draft picks that fall within your contract as a GM. (if you have a 1 year contract, you can not trade picks for the next season's draft.  If you have a 4 year contract you can trade picks as far out as 3 seasons beyond this current draft).  TRADING FUTURE PICKS EFFECTS YOUR OWNERS VIEW OF THE JOB YOU ARE DOING

***Owners look at your trades as a way to form their opinion of you.  Even with job security, you can work your way into being fired and paid to GTFO. ***

-   There are two conferences with one division in each. There are five teams in each division. Each Team has an owner with their own unique story and personality.

Platinum Conference

ATLANTIC
Bar Harbor Storm
Minnesota Rain
Panama City Breakers
Smokey Mountain Mist
Manhattan Moguls

Gold Conference

Coaches

Each team will have the opportunity to hire a head coach if you don't already have one. Each Head Coach is responsible for hiring his 2 assistants and a 3rd which is your scouting director. Based on each individuals strengths is how they will help and affect your team, so when interviewing and hiring make sure you ask the right questions and tell your coach what skills you would like the other coaches to have.

If you fire a coach, you are responsible for their complete salary buyout. (There will be no owner penalties for the first year for that I don't want anyone having coaches that don't fit what they want to do)

-Teams are responsible for for %50 of players salary for current year if a player is released.
-Teams are responsible for %50 of coaches salary for remainder of so season. You are not responsible if the coach quits or wants to be released.
-If a player really doesn't want to be on your team they may except release with no penalty to your team (DICE ROLL)

COMMUNICATION

- When threads are unlocked, the fun begins, this is the time to communicate with either players or coaches or both.
- You may address any news that may come up having to do with your team.
- It's best to communicate with 1-2 people on your squad. If you choose to keep talking to multiple players or the same players week in and week out players and coaches will start to get annoyed that you are pulling them from practices.
- Coaches do not like to be constantly be questioned about their coaching style. All will always explain a first time, maybe even a second depending on their personality but some may be slightly more impatient and start to become tart and cantankerous if the same questions ensue.
- You will notice personality shifts with the way coaches/players begin to respond to you.
- You PR/Secretary also have their own unique twist and flavor which means your tone with them also matters.
- Overall get to know your team, no question is stupid the FIRST TIME! (It's ok to read other threads and get a feeling for what type of answer you may receive for a question)

ROLEPLAYING

In the WBS, the world, like most sims is based on interaction between GM and his/her owners, coaches, players, agents and secretaries/communications experts. Like most sims your tone, attitude combined with the characters tone and attitude will reflect on your relationship and affect those relationships. To add an element of roleplaying to the WBS world, all characters interactions might lead to spontaneous new pathways in the game which can and most will affect relationships. It is important you read and possibly get hints into the characters such as agents, owners and secretaries. There are predetermines bonuses and perks that can be unlocked with your ability to communicate.
The character descriptions are there to help guide you but do not fret creative ways to communication. (Entertain me also but don't get out of hand)

This does not mean to speak to every individual on a week in and week out basis. The bonuses range from minimal to moderate and may have some significance into the information you receive or character relationships. (Please read communication)

GM Lucas

BONUSES & PERKS

Bonuses and perks have already been predetermined though team owners, secretaries and ability to ask certain questions. understand, two GM's asking the same question might not result in the same answer, especially when taking into account the different personalities you are dealing with. Players have certain moods towards their owners, the organization and even players on their own team that range from "Hates his coach to Loves the organization and everything in-between. The better the mood doesn't necessarily affect direct responsible to you but may indicate how the player sis feeling towards something else, don't get me wrong, it might be towards you if you pissed him off. A player might hate the owner but love playing with a particular guy on the team and vise versa.

PERKS
Every Owner has a predetermined perk I was able to create and assign according to their own wants, needs, personality, willingness, strict demeanor, Wanting to spend or being cheap, Win now, casual or moderate personality traits. You won't know the perk but if you commutate correct, the owner and or Secretary will hint at something they or the owner may be willing to do for you. The perks aren't game changing but more helpful if when needed, also if you have a good relationship with your owner/secretary/communication expert.

EXAMPLE:THIS IS NOT A PERK. ONLY A SMALL EXAMPLE
Owner B has a perk that all veterans who are going to retire that year play for the league minimum for you.
You won't know this unless you sign a really old player and communicate with him

FREE AGENCY

Free agency will be in two parts.

1- Team will be allowed to send their offers to three players from the FA list. The years and money. If it's being considered you won't here back. If it's to low, depending on the agent you may get a counter or request to raise the deal. Best case scenarios you far outbid everyone and the agent will immediately accept. You will be notified by your communications/PP person.

2- once the first phase it done, you will notified if your deal has been reject or if it's still be under consideration by talking to your Communications/PR person. Note, don't make this a habit or you will annoy all parties involved. Once we move into phases 2-3. you will have to reach out and speak to an agent. Some agent will create an auction among you and other GM's, some agents will give you one try to do better. What a GM thinks of you will be important in dealing with you later in the season.

3-If you make an offer and then pull the offer off the table, their might not be no renegotiations. Players do have moods and that is sim created not mod.

4-because there was a hard salary cap change to players salary min-max I will allow the first round to be more negotiable because i know you all don't have last years contracts to know what to offer. So in your first deals, if you wish to know what a player is asking for you may get one chance with the first three you send, so after I get the players you are interested in I will send what they are asking for, after that you have to speak to agents.

5-Free for all will consist of GM contacting agent directly in team thread to negotiate.

You may choose the overall skill set or you may be specific in a particular skill, and the coaches will focus on that skill or skills.
