BIG SPENDERS:  MILWAUKEE, RAPID CITY, AND ST. PAUL ADD BIG NAMES AS ASSISTANT HEAD COACHES THANKS TO BIG BUDGETS!

After missing out on HC and Coordinator positions, Josh McNeil, Luis Brown, and Duncan Hunter have all found nice landing spots to rebuild their coaching stock.

McNeil brings his offensive prowess to the Milwaukee Barons, considered a prime HC candidate for the expansion in the PFL, McNeil was convinced to sign with Milwaukee as the assistant head coach instead.

Luis Brown is sticking with the team he won championships with, signing on to be the assistant head coach of the Rapid City Inferno.

In St. Paul, Duncan Hunter arrives to bring even more offensive know-how to an already strong team with highly praised head coach Alberto Kidwell showing that his ego isn't too big to bring in another celebrated offensive mind.

LOST IN TRANSITION:  DT JOE MARTINO'S PERSONAL BELONGINGS INCLUDING PRECIOUS FAMILY HEIRLOOMS ALL LOST AFTER SUDDEN FLIGHTS FROM LONDON TO LONG BEACH TO DALLAS VIA SLEW OF TRADES!

Life in the HIFL can be hard, but when you are a young player who is drafted and signs a 3 year contract with your team for millions of dollars you sometimes feel like it is safe to settle down, at least for a few years, but any veteran in the league can tell you that life changes fast in pro football and doubly so in the HIFL where GMs would trade their own grandmothers if it meant getting a lottery ticket draft pick at the right time.

For 2nd year defensive tackle Joe Martino, a former second round draft pick out of Northern Illinois, that lesson was learned the hard way this week.    Martino was a 2nd round pick last season and decided to move all of his belongings with him to a home he purchased in London, England.    This week he was traded to Long Beach and for obvious reasons paid to have his entire life packed into boxes and shipped across the globe to Southern California where he would make his new life, or so he thought... a few days after being traded, Martino found himself being gifted a ticket to Dallas, Texas and when he arrived he was unable to redirect his possessions which were delivered to Long Beach and then lost in transit from California to Texas.

Martino took to social media to vent revealing that the ashes/remains of both his parents were lost along with several valuable family heirlooms including a 12th century Roman Coin Collection and Sword which are considered unreplaceable.

Martino's situation should be a lesson to all young athletes, but one that is hard to swallow none the less.

BREAKING NEWS:  OAKLAND SILVERBACKS IN HOT WATER AFTER GM GRAVEDIGGER MAKES MULTIPLE OFFERS DURING FIRST PHASE OF INTERNATIONAL FREE AGENCY!

OAKLAND --- Scott Forest has contacted the HIFL League Office and informed them that the Oakland Silverbacks have violated IFA protocols by making offers to multiple players on the first phase of International Free Agency.  As a result the league has fined the Silverbacks $1MM in International Bonus Money and forbid them from continuing negotiations for phase one.   GM Rep, Pancho Libre has stepped in to attempt to help limit the damage in penalties, reportedly negotiating the fine down to $1MM from the originally considered $5MM.

While the fine and temporary suspension of activity has satisfied the league office, Scott Forest could still have a bone to pick with GM Digger, but only time will tell.

IFA UPDATE:  USA DT DEX COVINGTON DOWN TO THREE SUITORS AS EACH TEAM REPORTEDLY HAS MADE THEIR FINAL OFFER OF STAGE ONE!

WASHINGTON -- Team USA defensive standout Dex Covington had a very busy first day of international free agency.   The star player and his agent Mike Maker have met with GMs from Long Beach, Winnipeg, and Atlanta already and after hearing offers from all three clubs as well as hearing counter offers it appears that Covington will be making a decision soon.

"Some agents might try to stretch this thing out until every last penny has been thrown in from the highest bidder," Mike Maker said today on an interview with Sky Sports,  "...but I believe we are where Dex wants to be when it comes to financial security going forward.  We've got some really competitive offers from some well respected GMs, I mean two GM of the Year winners and a Two-Time Impact Bowl Champion, so yeah my phone line might be open until the end of the day, but it is going to take one hell of an offer to know our top contenders out of their spots in line."

Last season defensive tackle became a position of great emphasis as names like Wilkinson, Worthington, Elliott, and Rich made massive contributions in the stat sheets, so Covington getting so much attention definitely makes a lot of sense.

IFA UPDATE:  TEAM USA LEFT TACKLE LARRY FABIAN AGREES TO UNPRECEDENTED 8 YEAR DEAL WITH CANCUN THAT GUARANTEES TACKLE IS A TOP-3 EARNER EACH SEASON!

CANCUN -- The Sydney Stingrays and Cancun Kraken engaged in a bidding war on the first day of International Free Agency.  Both GM Lucas and GM Eli brought out their best offers to try to lure Team USA left tackle Larry Fabian to join their HIFL club despite the $12MM posting fee that would be required to be paid to team USA to secure his services.

The Sydney Stingrays appeared to be positioned to land the 24 year old tackle with a rumored offer of a 4 year deal worth $25MM per year including the final year being a player option worth $26MM; however Cancun brought out a new and never before scene contract structure.   An 8 year deal (5 years with 3 player options starting season 22)  worth $25MM per season but the deal also guarantees that Fabian's contract will be adjusted any time the current deal does not fall into the league's top-3 salary average for the tackle position, meaning if Fabian is outside of the top 3 average salaries at the start of the season, then the following season he will be paid that top-3 salary average.

With the structure and the possible 8 year term, Fabian's camp said it was hard to consider anything else, and so the deal was signed!

Fabian will be the first addition to an offensive line that was notoriously bad at protecting quarterbacks last season.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS:  TEAM USA CONVERTS POSTING FEE PROFITS INTO LUCRATIVE OFFER TO SIGN 17 YEAR OLD PHENOM AND SON OF HIFL COACH TYSON HOLYFIELD; "VIBRANIUM" MICHAEL HOLYFIELD!

WASHINGTON -- After the loss of Dex Covington and Joe Wilcox to the HIFL and the high probability that other high profile talents are soon to follow, Team USA began to retool this afternoon by announcing a signing that robs the NCAA and pro leagues of one of the brightest young defensive prospects of the generation.

Today ferocious inside linebacker Michael Holyfield announced that he would be turning down all scholarship offers to make the jump from High School football straight to the American National Team in the IFAF.

Traditionally, after high school players either choose to sign with Team USA's developmental program in the U-20 league and hope for a call up after proving themselves or they go to college and play with the hopes of going into the HIFL or PFL draft, but Holyfield will now be one of the few elite prospects to go straight from Varsity football in high school to the main squad in the IFAF.

The son of former edge rusher turned pro coach Tyson Holyfield,  Michael is undersized at 5'9, but makes up for the lack of size with devastating power, lightening quick agility, and an ruthless aggression rarely seen in the sport.

The American National Team president Tom Jizefski said that Team USA football decided to invest the posting fee earnings from the Dex Covington and Joe Wilcox signings into a lucrative package to bring Holyfield into the fold and begin developing "the next generational talent at linebacker."

Team USA Head Coach, Matthew Taylor also spoke saying: "Adding Mike to our defense will be a huge addition, it's true!  He brings Intensity to the field and that is one of my favorite qualities in a player.   When you look back at this day, you will not see Dex, Joe, and anyone else who signs and departs this week as being the end of an era, no no.. it will simply be a changing of the guard."

Team USA is expected to be aggressive in replacing its lost talent in order to keep its position as one of the best in the world.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS:  BRITISH RISING STAR HARRY DUTCHMASTER CALLED UP FROM U20 SQUAD TO COMPETE WITH VETERAN OLLIE PIPPINGHAM FOR STARTING QB JOB THIS SEASON!

LONDON -- After what started as a promising season for the United Kingdom quickly went south when "the Golden Refugee" Ivan Tyshchenko was detained in his home country of Ukraine and forced to change teams mid-season leaving the UK club without a starting QB under center.

The story of Tyshchenko is one of a young man who fled to the UK with his family during the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.  Tyshchenko, like 17 million other Ukrainians was displaced and taken in as a refugee.   Quickly the 15 year old took to football and was scooped up by the UK Developmental U20 team and rose up the ranks.  In 2024 as a 17 year old the QB was thrust into a full season as starting QB due to unexpected injuries that ravaged the QB room.  As a 15 game starter he impressed with 3227 yards and 9 TDs and in 2026 he got his chance to start again.  At 19 going on 20, Tyshchenko was on a roll, but with the Russian/Ukraine conflict over, Ukraine was pushing heavily in the IFAF and politically to have the uber talented QB returned to his home nation, but Tyshchenko expressed his desire to stay in the UK and to continue his football career with the team he came up with, but when the United Kingdom played in Ukraine late in the season last year Ukrainian immigration control detained Ivan and would not allow him to leave with his teammates, while the UK tried to negotiate his release, Tyshchenko eventually agreed to join Ukraine's national team and had an up and down end of the season with many accusing the QB of intentionally sabotaging his new club.

With Tyshchenko no longer in the picture for Team UK, the club turned to career backup and spot starter Ollie Pippingham who struggled mightily.   Now heading into a pivotal 2026-27 season, Pippingham was believed to be the starter but the team announced today that they were calling up their prized prospect, QB Harry Dutchmaster.  The bastard son of a disgraced former Royal, Dutchmaster was raised in Essex and has been known for his short temper, loud mouth, and cannon of an arm.  Never one to shy away from a challenge or a fight, Dutchmaster made a name for himself in the U20 circuit with highlight reel touchdown passes and explosive press conferences.

Now the 20 year old hot shot will challenge the 33 year old journeyman for the right to start for one of the most prestigious teams in International Football, it should be an exciting competition to watch.

BREAKING NEWS:  DISGRUNTLED JAPANESE SAFETY HIDEKI OKADA GRANTED SPECIAL PERMISSION TO ENTER HIFL POSTING POOL FOR PHASE TWO AFTER FALLING OUT WITH NIPPON FOOTBALL COUNICL!

TOKYO -- 21 year old Safety Hideki Okada was a superstar for Japan's U20 club for the past three seasons, but after being called up on his 21st birthday when he was no longer eligible to play for the U20 team, Okada has been stuck on the bench behind 35 year old starter Asahi Takeuchi.

Takeuchi, a 15 year veteran, was expected to retire this off-season but not to at the last moment, robbing Okada of his chance to start due to an policy from the Nippon Football Council that grants veterans of 10+ years guaranteed starting positions if they have started for 5 or more consecutive seasons.

Okada petitioned the NFC and the IFAF to depart the club immediately and after a long deliberation his release to be posted was granted.

Okada will now join the remaining players in the IFA pool for the HIFL to attempt to sign.  With a $20MM posting fee attached, clearly Japan wants to recoup some of its investment but experts believe that if Okada goes unsigned he would defect to the PFL before returning to a reserve role in the IFAF.
