DC COBRAS SIGN SIX HBCU-UDFA'S TO FILL OUT 53 MAN ROSTER!

WASHINGTON DC -- The DC Cobras signed 18 UDFA's this afternoon to fill out their 53 man roster.  With a lack of remaining UDFA players on the market at certain positions, the cash strapped Cobras turned to a six-pack of unknown rookies from a handful of HBCU programs.

QB's Jabreezy Cortese and Ta'Cory Littleton of NC Central and Florida A&M, RB Gatorade McStuffins of Howard University, WR's Quinshad Alpaca and Nawlins Blount of NC Central and North Carolina A&T, and Dre Lewis Jr, a DE from Jackson State and the son of former controversial HIFL player/coach Dre Lewis.

It remains to be seen if any of these players can make an impact on the club, but the opportunity is there, especially at QB where unproven Hubert Solis will enter his first season as a starter, and without a veteran back up on the roster Cortese and Littleton could be competing for a meaningful role as the primary back up.

TRAINING CAMP: LEAGUE ANNOUNCES ALL TEAMS MUST BE LOCKED IN BY MONDAY TO AVOID AUTO-FILLS, AUTO-LOCKS, AND FINES!

The HIFL is preparing to start Training Camp to officially start Season 17 and it appears some teams are dangerously close to costing their organizations money or risk missing out on some valuable training time due to incomplete rosters or un-finalized team information.

The league has announced a deadline of Monday (real-world October 16th) for all teams to submit their team lock in information, complete with full rosters and strategy information confirmed for coaching staffs.   A failure to be incompliance by the deadline will result in a $1.5MM bonus fine for filling out the teams roster and/or an additional $1.5MM fine for finalizing the teams lock-in information.

Teams without a finalized roster prior to the deadline will also lose out on the valuable mini-camp week which provides additional training to a handful of players of the GM's choosing.

Reports indicate that locally held open tryouts would be used to fill roster positions at rookie minimum rates leaving even more talent in the UFA pool for the PFL to scoop up as they prepare to finalize their rosters.

FORMER COBRAS QB MICHAEL MEEK LANDS MEGA-DEAL TO JOIN TAMPA BAY HONEY HUNTERS AFTER GETTING ZERO-INTEREST FROM HIFL CLUBS!

Today Quarterback Michael Meek signed a 2 year deal worth $41.5MM per year.   Meek spoke at an introductory press conference and when asked about his decision to leave the HIFL, the 27 year old simply said "They didn't even call me, so I'm going to to play where I am wanted."

Meek's signing means that 2024 #1 overall pick, Robert Mahoney will spend another season on the bench barring injury.  Mahoney, a 6'3 QB from Oregon State, started all 16 games of his rookie season for New York, but the arrival of Elias Ibrahimovic saw him traded to Baltimore where he sat behind another HIFL import, Tommy Mazza who's 33 TD season pushed Baltimore to a 15-1 regular season.     Mahoney requested his release after the season and was granted, being picked early in the Expansion draft by Tampa Bay, but now once again he is being relegated to the bench by a former HIFL quarterback, which clearly has not sat well with him.

Meek was a drafted 13th overall in the Season 10 HIFL Draft out of Florida State by the Music City Kings.   During his 4 seasons as the starter in Music City, Meek proved to be a quality QB with his ability to limit turnovers totaling 91 TDs to 28 INTs across 52 Starts.  In S14 Meek found himself  signing with the Las Vegas Scorpions as a free agent but the marriage did not last long as a trade-deadline deal sent a Meek and draft picks to The DC Cobras for Marcus Mariota.
The deal would prove to be a steal for GM Justin and the DC Cobras as Meek fell right into place in the DC offense under Coach Saint shattering his career highs in passing yards and touchdowns as well as completion percentage.   In his three years in DC, Meek threw 97 touchdowns to 34 INTs, with 20 of them coming in one season.

Meek's ability to place the ball with accuracy in the high tempo, pass heavy attack saw several receivers climb the single season reception boards but his hesitation to throw the deep ball is what Meek believes lead to his exit from the HIFL.    Meek added:  "A lot of GMs want the flashy 90 yard touchdown guy and don't appreciate what a 72% completion rating when throwing the ball 600-800 times a year means.   It means back to back seasons of 30+ TDs.  It means 9453 passing yards over the last two years... but hey, good luck to them all, I've got a new league to worry about."

PFL SIGNING: RECENTLY AMNESTIED RUNNING BACK QUAN BLACK JOINS THE PFL'S NEW ORLEANS PHOENIXES!

The New Orleans Phoenixes have announced the signing of 28 year old running back Quan Black.  The deal is worth $30.5MM per season for two years.

Black rushed for 1,105 yards and 13 Touchdowns (4.9 YPC) last season in New Jersey and rushed for 5,123 yards and 42 Touchdowns across his 5 year career with Seattle and New Jersey while averaging 4.8 yards per carry for his career.
