I can get the #1 injury prevention and recovery man for an extra $1MM to the HC staff.

GM Wayne

The money is spent. Excited to see who you bring in.

Talon

I'll get right to work.

GM Wayne

Ms. Halle would you connect me with Bobby Shapiro please.

Wayne waits for the call to connect.

Bobby my guy. Your client, Chadwick Parrish, is one of our restricted free agents and I'd like to keep him with us going forward. Would 2 years at 1.5 million work for you?

Talon

#154

We're seeking $3.5MM per season, my guy.

GM Wayne

How about 2.5 million and I affirm you as being the agent with the best hair in the business when I file it with the league office?

Talon

You can affirm that every time you league office a deal with me; but right now that's the price, fella.

GM Wayne

You drive a hard bargain, good sir. But you have a deal.

Talon

Talon

Hello GM Wayne,   I am Thomas Reese, the investigator looking into the recent allegations made against your boss.  Do you have a few minutes to answer a few questions?

GM Wayne

Mr. Reese I am sure you are aware of my public statement on this matter. Unless instructed to do so by the Lancaster Corporation or being compelled by court of law, I will not answer any questions regarding the organization beyond what is already accessible to the public.

Now, if you have any questions that fall within that purview, I am happy to discuss that.

Talon

I'm sorry. I understand and respect your stance, but if you change your mind, I'll leave my card with your secretary.  Give me a call if you want to talk.

GM Wayne

I'm curious, Mr. Reese, if you've considered the ramifications of your broad sweeping investigation. If something turns up with any of the franchises you're investigating what is the ultimate outcome? An owner, or more, being forced to sell their team?

Have you considered the impact such a scenario could have on any number of the cities that currently support a franchise? What if a hypothetical new owner decides they wish to relocate? Have you thought about the widespread economic disaster that such a move would bring to small businesses who survive off the revenue brought in by being in close proximity to HIFL team?

Does that not bother you at all that you might bear at least some responsibility for destroying the lives of otherwise innocent people simply trying to get by? And for what? You think an exorbitantly wealthy owner or two no longer being able to get a little more than their fair share is going to affect them in any way? They'll just find that money in some other venture while how many average people will find themselves unemployed, unable to support their families anymore?

Those are my questions, Mr. Reese. Knowing those things can you honestly say you sleep well at night?

Talon

I am simply doing my job Mr. Wayne, I have no bias either way, nor do I choose the outcome of what my finds lead to.

The way I see it, if someone puts their investment in jeopardy by circumventing the rules in one way or another that is between them and those who decide on the consequences of their actions.

As for how I sleep at night, it is simple.   Naked.

Good Day, sir.

GM Wayne

Heh. Ignoring the blood on your hands doesn't make it disappear.

I'll have someone escort you out.

Talon

Hi there, I've got us with $1.95MM and $4.75MM in bonus heading into UFA.

GM Wayne

That's what I have too with three spots left to fill.

GM Wayne

Ms. Halle would you place a call to Scott Forrest thanks.

"Scott, I'm up against the cap a little bit but I'd like to make the same offer I made to another player during UFA, but he simply had more guaranteed cash on the table.

Basically the offer would be to play this season on a one year, 1.25 million dollar contract with a player option for a second season and the following incentive option attached:

Win one playoff game, option year contract increases to 2.5 million
Win two playoff games, option year contract increases to 3.5 million
Win three playoff games, option year contract increases to 4.75 million.
Win the impact bowl (whether it takes 3 or 4 wins to do so), option year contract increases to 6 million.

I know that's a little complex but we've got a fucking amazing defense here right now and the one thing we're missing is that 3rd corner to pair with Maxley and Britt.

Talon

I haven't played since pee wee but you have a deal.

GM Wayne

Now that I've collected myself, Mr. Forrest, I'm sure you know it was not my intention to offer you that contract and I got ahead of myself.

Now, if you really want to come to training camp and all that I'll dedicate a certain amount of bonus money toward a Cleveland Mustangs VIP experience for you as part of our PR. We'll say.. I'll allocate like 500K in bonus money to make that happen.

And then offer the contract that I just mentioned a bit ago to CB Joshua Reynolds. Would that be fair? I admit you've got me in a bit of an uncomfortable position here on my end.

Talon

I've already signed the deal, it's just waiting on you to finalize it.  Now if you want to Amnesty me after the fact that's all good and dandy, but I don't back out of deals once I agree to them, and I don't like to work with people who do, either.

GM Wayne

You know what. Fuck it. Welcome to the Mustangs. We'll get you an Impact Bowl and shove it down each one of these smug fuckers faces that are gloating right now.

You don't happen to have a UDFA client out there that you're representing that you'd like to hook up with a 350K contract for the season, do you?

Talon

Actually, my nephew, Bronson Forest is trying to get into the league. He wasn't invited to the combine because he played at Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo like I did..  He'd sign for 350K for the season with a team option for S17 at $750K and a TO for S18 at $2MM

GM Wayne

Sure. What position does he play so I know where to list him on my lock in?

Talon

Well, in school he was a FB, RB, LB, and DE... so your choice where he is officially listed and trained, but he can do a little bit of all of it.

GM Wayne

We'll figure that out coming training camp and see you there. Thanks, Scott.

Wayne ends the call.

Ms. Halle, I know we're at 53 but I think I'm going to see if I can't keep working to improve the team a bit. I need you to call James T. Crain for me.

Wayne waits for the call to connect.

Mr. Crain, I'd like to offer your client Cornerback Nathan Woodson a two year contract worth two and a half million per season. Would that work for you guys?

Talon

Nate would take $6MM per season, but no way he comes down to $2.5MM.

GM Wayne

Can we meet in the middle at 4.25 million? I'll knock it down to a one year deal if that would make Nate more amenable.

Talon

How about $4MM salary $1.25MM bonus?

GM Wayne

For one season or two? Either way I am happy with that contract. Just let me know.

...really?  Scott Forest?

GM Wayne

Halle please don't bully me. My heart can't take it.

Is Cyrus around? There's a note that we would discuss the expectations for the season once we were back in office.

Talon

GM Wayne, welcome back to the office..  I'm sure you've seen the official expectations from the higher ups, but I am here to answer any questions you may have about those expectations.

GM Wayne

Only question I have is regarding the top 5 defense goal and the improved offense goal. What standard is going to be used to determine top 5 defense? Points allowed I assume?

And with the improved offensive scoring is it going to be the ranking that is the standard, or the average points per game scored?

Talon

Ah yes, yes.. For both, it will be based on points scored or allowed; on your team sheet it shows the points we produced or allowed last year along with our ranking.  If you improve our offense from 25.7PPG but it still only ranks in at 16-18 or something near that, we will consider it a success, but if we keep it similar to the 25 points but that manages to rank in the top 10-12, it would also be a success.. sort of a "whichever is better" situation, if you will.

GM Wayne

Thanks for the clarification. I will be disappointed if we don't achieve both of those goals.

Is there anything you need from me before I start meeting with the coaching staff and getting ready for week 1?

Talon

Sounds like you understand what the man upstairs wants, so I've got nothing for you other than wishing you good luck.

GM Wayne

Thanks Cyrus. Very kind of you. Give The Big Guy my regards.

Wayne returns to his office.

Ms. Halle, would you mind getting Coach Blitzer for me? Thank you.

Wayne waits for the Coach to arrive.

Coach! Coming out of camp I'm pleased with how things went but I was even more impressed to see Bronson Forrest was so highly thought of from a star ratings perspective. Do you think he actually has the makeup of a starter, though? I don't want to just rely on the star ratings.

Talon

The kid is an athletic freak of nature.  Glad we got him before he went on to join Code Red Wrestling or one of the other big promotions out there.   Looks like a solid starter this season, he can start now easily, it pushes one of our other young guys down into a reserve role, but I think it's worth it.

GM Wayne

That's fucking awesome to hear. Do you think we're better suited keeping Albrecht at middle linebacker and using Bronson on the outside, or letting Matthew function as an outside linebacker and putting Bronson in the middle of the defense?

Talon

Albrecht was so brilliant last year, I don't upset the apple cart.

GM Wayne

Lets fucking go then!

WEEK 1 PRESS QUESTIONS

1. Discuss your performance and result for week 1. What were some sustains, and what were some improvements going into week 2?

2. Justin wasn't as dynamic, is that a credit to the Long Beach defense or did he underacheive?

3. Coming out of training camp and now seeing the team in week 1, what should fans expect to see this year from your club?

4. Did any news catch your eye this week?

5. Discuss your next opponent and game.

GM Wayne

1. Discuss your performance and result for week 1. What were some sustains, and what were some improvements going into week 2?

Defense played great. The offense showed flashes. In the end we didn't make enough plays to beat a really good Long Beach team. I could should've, would've, could've this to the moon and back but at the end of the day we didn't execute as well as they did. Congratulations to Long Beach.

Loved the effort out of our defense. We'll need them to continue that performance. They created a number of turnovers for us that we got some points off of. I think 10 off three consecutive turnovers, if I remember correctly. If we score touchdowns off all three of those we're talking about a win today instead of a loss.

Offensively we just need to take care of the football better ourselves. We put the ball on the turf alot and let a talented DE get in the backfield after Justin far too much.

2. Justin wasn't as dynamic, is that a credit to the Long Beach defense or did he underacheive?

I disagree with the premise that Justin wasn't dynamic. He was cracking ten and fifteen yard runs with some frequency. Sure, he didn't crack a big one but he was making plays consistently. The problem was that so was Kenny Diamond. So it wasn't that Justin wasn't dynamic, it was that Diamond and the Long Beach defense were equally dynamic. Again, credit to them.

3. Coming out of training camp and now seeing the team in week 1, what should fans expect to see this year from your club?

Championships. Division. Conference. Impact Bowl. Our focus and expectations haven't changed.

4. Did any news catch your eye this week?

The Wilkinsons are beasts. I think we all knew that but it was reinforced with both Bruce and TWII's performances. They're game breaking defensive players.

Now, imagine how good Jett is going to be once he gets to the league. Kid is going to make the best CB's in the world absolutely miserable.

5. Discuss your next opponent and game.

We keep it moving and head to Milwaukee. It will be nice to play now that they don't have a belligerent alcoholic with Napoleon syndrome pulling the strings.

More importantly, though, we need to right the ship. I know the Barons aren't projected to make waves this season but we can't take them lightly. They've got a good QB under center now and talent on both sides of the football so we need to play pissed off, determined football and come back home with a win.
