GM Stark

That's what the preseason's for, so let's take our time and evaluate all our options. Just a couple more things: So Coach Hildebrand mentioned that our wideouts are feeling down? Did he give you any clue as to why during camp?

Talon

Just a case of low morale. I think guys just want to win games.

GM Stark

Well, I'm right there with'em, tell them that it's a new season and we're gonna be just fine. Now, I heard Dennis wasn't happy about his spot in the depth chart. I really wish you could tell me how to fix it, but I doubt we're gonna have an answer for that. I originally brought him in because I wanted a deep linebacker room, and also if anything were to happen he was the next guy up who'd step in. I guess he might not like that idea.

Talon

I don't think it will be hard to talk him into sticking around unless you just completely fumble the conversation.  If he gets reps he'll probably settle down, he just doesn't want to spend the entire year on the bench.

If we have to move him, it should only be for compensation we're happy with, if not then I dont think he's going to be protesting in his birthday suit or anything.

GM Stark

Thanks for the insight Coach. Also, before I let you get back to the team, I wanted to ask about our pass rush with our front 4. I know Oki might be an unknown, but I didn't know if you had a bit of an assessment of him during camp. Like I have some idea of Duke's game because a few seasons ago he was almost close to raking up double-digit sacks, but when it comes to Oki I kind of wanted to see if you had seen anything noteworthy. I wanna make sure he succeeds here in the HIFL even if it means he's solid but not outstanding at one thing.

Talon

Oki is a very sure tackler, really strong hands to wrap up when he gets to a ball carrier.  He should be very good against the run, my concern overall is just a lack of strength to shed blockers.  He doesn't blow you away with speed, he's more of a traditional DE but he works hard and takes pride in his work.

GM Stark

That's all we can ask of him. That's about it for my questions Coach, I'll let you get back to prepping the locker room. Good luck out there and if you could ask Dennis to come up I'd appreciate it.

Talon

GM Stark

Hey Dennis, how are you doing? So, first I wanna say that I'm glad you signed back on with us this season. I'm sure you were hoping to come back to Seattle and work towards a starting position, and I can respect your ambitions. I know you might be unhappy about the circumstances, but I do really want to keep you on this team. My vision was to have you have another capable guy in case one of the other guys got hurt. You know our system, you have the experience, and you're reliable, we need somebody like that playing with our other guys. Regardless of where you are on the depth chart, we're stronger at linebacker with you around Dennis. If you give us a chance we'll do our best to give you ample playing time.

Talon

If you can get me on the field, I'm gonna be fine, but I just don't want to waste my playing days on the bench.

GM Stark

If an opportunity comes up, you'll be my first man up, you have my word.

Talon

Appreciate that, but I also hope you find me some snaps in rotation.

GM Stark

I'm gonna try to do that. Me and Coach Bly will try and give you the best chance to succeed. Good luck out there in these preseason games Dennis, and if you ever wanna talk to me the door's open.

GM Stark

1. What did you take away from this slate of pre-season games?

That our players make the best of the opportunities given to them. I was optimistic about what we saw and I feel like we have a very solid team this year that is gonna turn a lot of heads during the regular season. These pre-season games were great evaluators and I came away happy with our roster.

2. Which player stood out the most to you from your team?

Emma Moss holding her own was great. She didn't let those wideouts intimidate her and the results were pretty good. Her technique in pass defense is impressive and I'm sure we'll find ways for her to succeed in our defensive schemes when it's called upon to do.

3. Did anyone surprise you and earn a starting job?

Oluwadamilola Obi really surprised me. The way he ran this pre-season, I think he's going to be our week 1 starter. He's big, he's fast, and he finishes his runs, what more can you ask for?

4. Does the pre-season change your feeling about your teams potential this season?

Like I said in the first question, it makes me optimistic. The guys seem ready and if we can keep this momentum we're really gonna be in a lot of conversations about the postseason going forward.

5. Talk about your opponent for week 1, and what it will take to win.

London's got a great QB in Lincoln Doss. That kid is an A1 talent and if we wanna be the talk of the town we need to be able to beat A1 talent. Our defense has to step up big, this means containing Doss when nothing is opening down the field, and making sure our secondary is glued to their man when the play breaks down. We do that, and we get the win.

Talon

GM Stark

It was pre-season, but I was very happy with how the entire roster played. Good job out there so far Coach. So, Robert and Timothy had a very competitive battle, but at the back end, I leaned towards Robert, he was consistent throughout pre-season and looked like he was finally getting back into the swing of playing QB. I want you to inform the coaching staff on offense that Robert is our starter going into Week 1, and I want you to tell Tim that he fought hard.

Talon

Absolutely. I agree with that decision and I've got no problem delivering the news.   Tim has been nothing but a pro, very happy with how he's been a pro's pro the entire time going back to last year.

GM Stark

I think we're all glad to have him onboard. Also, I wanted to try and give Dennis some snaps in the rotation. I know we're loaded up at linebacker, but if one of the guys needs a break during a few downs, I don't mind if Dennis gets rotated in. What do you think of my assessment?

Talon

No worries, just slot him as the 2nd LB in each position on the depth chart.

GM Stark

I hear you loud and clear. Let's start the season off with a W Coach Bly.

GM Stark

1. Talk us through opening week, what went as expected?  Where did you exceed expectations, and where did you fall short?

Wasn't a great start to the season, but it's the first week and we're gonna use this to learn. Obi exceeded my expectations, the young man did a great job carrying us in our run game and I think that was the highlight of this game. Where it fell short was the defense, I know we have turnovers, but with how good this defense looks, we've got to start setting a tone.

2. Which player stood out the most to you from your opponents team?

Doss is legit. He cooked us and I say that in the most humble way possible.

3. [IF YOUR TEAM HAS NEWS, TAILOR THIS QUESTION TO ASK ABOUT YOUR NEWS -- IF NO NEWS, TALK ABOUT A NEWS STORY THAT INTERESTS YOU]

There have been rumors about us looking for a QB to start. As of right now, we're rolling with Robert. David-Allen Slinger is a great QB, it's just to give up on our guy after one game after he fought for the starting job here would be a disservice to him and us.

4. Do you feel like you put your team in the best position for success coming into this week 1 game?

I think so, this team isn't bad, we've just to limit our mistakes and go from there.

5. Talk about your opponent for week 2 and what you will need to see from your team.

Last week they played great on both ends of the ball. Their defense is fast and are ballhawks, and on the other side, it's clear the offense runs through Derek Rogers. We have to limit our mistakes, and we have to make the best out of the opportunities we get. We can't give these guys a short field or there gonna make us pay like London did. If we do that we can win.

Talon

Luckily not every QB is as electric as Doss, but we didn't get much support from the corners either.  outside of Waddle, their receiving targets caught nearly every ball that came their way.

Like you emphasized, limiting our mistakes, especially the turnovers.  Romar's statline looks fine if you can erase those INTs.

GM Stark

I'm thinking of re-adjusting the corner depth chart. For the depth chart at the corner position, it's gonna be:

Take your time looking over it, I just wanted to try and go a little more depth as to what we can do to help our best guys succeed.

Talon

Alright, no worries at all.  Do you want to talk about any of those or is that just for me at the lock in?

GM Stark

I'm glad you asked!

STARK LOOKS EXCITED, RUBBING HIS HANDS TOGETHER AS HE LOOKS AT HIS NOTES, CLEARLY AMPED UP ABOUT FOOTBALL TALK.

So, Coach Johnson said he wanted to get Amon-Ra in the slot because of his ability to get open in the middle. I wanted to do that, but I didn't know who to have play outside in the more spread-out looks. I was thinking Dru, but if you had any ideas I'd be happy to hear.

Talon

Dru and Randall for sure.

GM Stark

Then we'll go with that! So in our Spread and Shotgun looks I'll just have Amon-Ra play in the slot and have Randall and Dru playing the outside. I really didn't have any concerns in terms of our defensive formations as of right now, but if you have anything you want to add we can talk it through and then get ready for our home game afterward.

Talon

Lets see how snaps and reps look in the 2nd game to get a better base line, but we can talk about the defense and tweaks more if we see someone not getting enough time.

GM Stark

Alright, that sounds like a plan to me. Let's bounce back from this loss and get back on track Coach Bly. Good luck!

LOCK IN.

GM Stark

1. Talk about your teams performance this week.

Love what we did defensively. When we hold a team to under 200 total yards, that speaks volumes to the talent we have on that side of the ball. Freddy Vengeance and Leland Creamer were playing like their hair was collectively on fire and I for one am all here for it. Offense, I'm glad Kiki stepped up in our run game and helped Robert out. The game was a rainy mess and it seemed like no one could keep their hands on the ball because of how bad it was out there; But Kiki was steady and played lights out. He was the big reason we won this game.

2. How do you feel about your team after two weeks?

It's hard to say because we're 1-1 so it's a mixed bag of things. I mean obviously I don't doubt that our guys can be great any given night, but I think we're still trying to parse through who we are as a team.

3. [IF YOUR TEAM HAS NEWS, TAILOR THIS QUESTION TO ASK ABOUT YOUR NEWS -- IF NO NEWS, TALK ABOUT A NEWS STORY THAT INTERESTS YOU]

Heard the news about YTSI naming their phone system after Kiki. Honestly, I get a kick out of knowing what Kiki's gonna tell his kids or even grandkids about the time he ran for 189 yards and a TD and even ran a punt back for a TD and got a phone program named after him. Imagine your kid using a phone and it's program is named after you. What a Thanksgiving story. (laughs)

4. Talk about your opponent for week 3 and what you will need to see from your team.

Lincoln is coming off a loss, but I never underestimate that team. GM Evans has done a great job cultivating a great team. We can't let that Winnipeg loss paint them as a team that can't be a contender in this conference. We play them with the respect we give every team, but also we get our guys going on offense and get the big stops on defense. Simple as that.

Talon

Lincoln will be tough.  We match up well with our run game and run D strength against their middle of the pack run defense and struggling run game, but I've got a lot of respect for Coach Marquez.  I worked on his staff when I was just getting into coaching, and I know he is a great defensive schemer, so nothing is going to come easy.

GM Stark

You can never count Lincoln out for sure. Listen, I respect that Vicky's been taking over for Adam while he's been injured and it's an admiral job she's putting forth, but I think I might want to have Richard Jones kick out to Guard this game and have Vicky play as Ronnie's backup at Center just in case Adam has to sit out again. Does that seem like a sufficient plan to you Andre?

Talon

I get where you're coming from.  Vicky's pass protection has been rough.

GM Stark

She needs some polish, but she was doing great in the run game, pro's and con's y'know? Also, I really wanna see if we can get the most out of RoMar in terms of picking it up with his legs. I remember his time in Milwaukee, but I also remember him feeling tentative during his time there because of injury concerns. If we give him a chance to improvise more during those drastic moments, would that open up our passing game? I just don't wanna limit him to just being a pocket-passer after what I saw of him during my team GMing for New Jersey and playing against him.

Talon

We can give him a little more leeway to run, certainly.  He's very fast, fast enough that he had made that move to WR for us prior to moving back to QB, so I think he can be dynamic as a runner.

GM Stark

So, we're gonna see how things go when we switch from the Normal tuck and run and go a more Frequent approach. And just a reminder we're gonna have Richard Jones play guard if Adam's still not ready to go and have Vicky back up Ronnie Vance at Center. Anything you wanna add Coach or are we set for another week of ball?

Talon

Throw those into the lock-in and we're good, boss.

GM Stark

SUB IN: RG - Richard Jones
SUB OUT: RG - Vicky Afalo
Tuck and Run: Often

Let's roll Coach.

LOCK IN.

GM Stark

1. Talk about your teams performance this week.

We fought as hard as we could to get back into the game, we just ran out of gas. I can't take anything away from Lincoln. Like I said before the start of the week, you can't underestimate them. They kept our passing game in check and Robert paid for it after taking 7 sacks. We're gonna have to do better, and the coach and I will try to find a balance so that we don't have to play from behind again.

2. Do you feel a particular coach has stood out on your staff, and why?

Coach Frankum's done a great job of getting the most out of the defense these past several weeks. I know Lincoln tore into us on the ground, but we did a heck of a job limiting the passing game. We can build on that, and I for one think Coach Frankum's the man for the job.

3. Talk about your opponent for week 4, do you see any holes in their game that you can exploit?

Hubert Solis is having a great year. He hasn't thrown a pick in three games and his QBR is off the charts. I can't say that offense has a weakness outside of their run game hitting a snag the past two weeks. They have great players on defense like Stephen Cotter, 2Face, and even the rookie on their D-line Moses Battles is putting in an effort. I think if we can attack them in the air that gives us the best chance to win.

Talon

Sucks to lose that one, but Obi's breakthrough on offense has been a welcome addition. Its good to have a guy giving us nearly 100 yards per game on under 20 carries.

GM Stark

I'm happy he's been able to find his footing in this offense. We just have to get this offense going through the air.

Talon

GM Stark

There aren't any real changes that I wanna make right now. So let's try and get back on track and win a game. Good luck out there.

LOCK IN.

GM Stark

1. Talk about your teams performance this week and through out this first quarter of the season.

It was a game where we were in control and we let it slip through our fingertips. We've just got to finish stronger down the stretch. There have been a couple of games where we needed to tighten up, and that's cost us big time and now we're sitting in a position we don't wanna be in.

2. How do you feel about your players placement in the league leaders, a quarter of the way through the season?  Who is an unsung hero on this roster?

I'm glad Kiki and Obi have been carrying this ground game. Them being in the top 10 in rushing this year means I can rely on them to get the yards when it counts.

3. Talk about your opponent for week 5, do you see any holes in their game that you can exploit?

Winnipeg's coming to visit, that team has played lights out. Great defense, great offense, I mean they've been rolling. Our run game has been a strength this season. While Winnipeg's run defense has been smothering, I think Kiki and Obi can handle the job.

Talon

The league is really sent for a loop this week. If you have anything we need to do, just let me know but if not I've got nothing that can't wait.

GM Stark

It's been a tough time Andre, but we've got to go on, it's what he'd want. Um, anyway I do have something I want to discuss with you and then we're gonna discuss it with Robert. We're gonna give Timothy the start this week to see if that can add a spark to the offense. I wanted to inform you first and then talk to Robert about it.

Talon

Appreciate the heads up.  I'll send him in if you're ready to talk to him?

GM Stark

Yeah, I'm ready.

Hey Robert, I just wanted to talk to you and let you know that we're going to let Timothy take over. I know you worked hard through the offseason to get back into the groove at QB, and I do appreciate you stepping up. But as of right now, I want to see if we can right this ship a bit and I wanna see if Timothy can at least help contribute to that. I just wanted to be upfront with you about what's going on.

I'll do everything I can to get him ready.  If you need me on the field, you know what number to call.

You're a good man Robert Marshall. I'm rooting for you guys to get a win this week. Good luck out there.
