PAIR OF PUNTERS, DENNIS PATTON AND JAMES SCROGGINS ANNOUNCE DECISION TO WITHDRAW FROM HIFL DRAFT AFTER BEING "SNUBBED" IN FIRST TWO ROUNDS1

In the history of the HIFL draft only 19 punters have been drafted, with the highest choice being Andrew Vieira who went to the Lincoln Pride with the 5th pick of the 2nd round in Season 5.  In that draft rookie British GM Leon Corbin selected the top Punter due to a lack of understanding the American Football functioned but while Vieira going 17th overall was a mistake, the Army graduate has proven to be one of the best punters of all-time.

That being said, no other punter outside of Joe Howell has been drafted in the first three rounds since Vieira, but that did not stop a pair of specialists from feeling their were destined to go in that range.

Dennis Patton and James Scroggins each informed the HIFL league office that they were withdrawing from the HIFL amateur.   In a statement released by Patton, the former Western Michigan punter said:

"I worked hard to prove myself and after GM Dario showed the value of a special teamer this season, I thought punters would start getting the respect we deserve, but apparently that is not the case."

Connecticut's James Scroggins also commented saying: "Vieira went in the 2nd round, and I'm better than him.  No reason I shouldn't have been a top 32 pick.  These GMs are blind AF."

FANS STUNNED AFTER IOWA DT'S RAFAEL S. GONZALEZ AND RAFAEL E. GONZALEZ BOTH DRAFTED!

One night one of the PFL draft, Gallos Negros de Mexico City selected Iowa defensive tackle Rafael Esteban Gonzalez, a 5th year senior from Moore, Oklahoma.  Gonzalez finished his career with the Hawkeyes with 14 sacks, 94 tackles, 12 TFL and 4 forced fumbles; highlighted by 24 QB knockdowns last season alone.   The 33 game resume was enough for Mexico City to make Gonzalez their 2nd first-round draft choice taking him 19th overall.

Meanwhile in the HIFL draft, on night three of the draft, the Milwaukee Barons selected Rafael Santiago Gonzalez, who missed his senior season due to a torn hamstring.   During his time at Iowa the Springfield, Missouri native collected 63 tackles, 8 TFL and 4 QB sacks across two years as a starter.

Social media reactions to two Rafael Gonzalez's from the same college playing the same position were full of memes with one fan saying "How can you commit to a college when a guy plays the same position with the same name already?  THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!"

RUMOR MILL: TEAM USA RECEIVER COURTNEY WATKINS EYING MOVE TO HIFL FOR S18!

The IFAF season is still months away, but Team USA which is still trying to recover from losing big name players like Larry Fabian, Joe Wilcox, Carrots McCoy, Dex Covington and Jeffrey Hughes is already possibly bracing for another major loss/exodus.

A source close to 23 year old wide receiver Courtney Watkins says that the athletic 6'2 receiver was tired of "playing for pennies and pride" and was ready to make a leap to the HIFL where he could make "real money" and become a superstar.

Watkins, a Chicago native, rose up the ranks on the U20 team, debuting on the IFAF roster two seasons ago.  As a first year call up he caught 79 passes for 1257 yards and 16 TDs but last year he and star QB Charlie Race struggled to build chemistry leading to Joe Wilcox being the primary receiver limiting Watkins to 34 catches for 647 yards and 7 TDs.

Watkins was benched for 3 games due to disagreements with the coaching staff, raising a potential red flag to HIFL clubs who are afraid of taking on risky players, but a strong season this year could prove that Watkins is worth the risk.

AFTER FAILING TO GARNER INTEREST FROM HIFL CLUBS, IFAF LEGEND ROBERT BURNETT SAYS HE WILL STICK WITH TEAM USA UNTIL RETIREMENT AND TRANSITION INTO COACHING!

Washington DC -- Robert Burnett has put together an amazing resume in the IFAF.  In 198 starts the 32 year old has logged 1338 tackles, 151 tackles for loss, 32 forced fumbles, 67 sacks, 15 interceptions, and 104 pass disruptions.  Last season the "glue of America" won his Pablo Plana award; the IFAF's Defensive player of the year honor.

Burnett decided that it was then time to make a leap to the HIFL via the International Posting System, but not a single team reached out during International Free Agency leading the veteran sideline to sideline tackler to announce this week that he would not pursue the HIFL a second time, instead committing to finishing his career in the IFAF while transitioning into  coaching role under Team USA head coach Matthew Taylor.

Burnett said of his decision: "I wanted to go to the HIFL, I saw it as a chance to come in and make an immediate impact as a veteran who was raedy to win a championship, but instead it was a young man's market; I guess nobody saw the value in a guy in his prime looking to sign a short term deal to make that kind of push, even though Larry Stevens, Gordon Goulet, and Ervin Edward all retired leaving a big void at the top of the veteran linebacker market, but hey... it lead me to a chance to become a future head coach here for Team USA, so I guess it was a blessing in disguise. AROOA! AROOA! AROOA!"

VANESSA WATERS OFFICIALLY MOVES FRANCHISE FROM ANN ARBOR TO DETROIT; ANNOUNCES REBRANDING FROM MICHIGAN MONSTERS TO DETROIT FURY!

After months of speculation and anticipation, Vanessa Waters officially announced her intent to relocate the Michigan Monsters headquarters from Ann Arbor to Detroit.  The team will officially move at the conclusion of the draft at which time the team will change names to The Detroit Fury.

During her press conference Waters revealed the teams new identity complete with a logo that depicted a female mascot that resembled herself; when asked what lead her to choose the name and logo, Waters wasted little time, saying:

"Hell hath no Fury as a woman scorned, and the last handful of general managers I've had since bringing my franchise to the HIFL from the APL have left me very scorned.   With GM Rinaldi in the front office, I am confident we are ready to unleash that Fury on the entire league!"

DEVELOPING: QB IVAN TYSHCHENKO SEEKING ASYLUM AFTER BEING DENIED PERMISSION TO LEAVE UKRAINE!

KIEV -- Last season a major storyline in the IFAF revolved around the man fans had dubbed "The Golden Refugee."  Ivan Tyshchenko was a start for the English national team but with the Russia/Ukraine war over, Ukraine demanded all Ukrainian athletes return to their homeland to compete for the national team instead of playing for the countries that took them in as refugees during the war.

With Tyshchenko refusing, Ukraine took controversial measures by confiscating the quarterback's passport when the UK traveled to Ukraine for a game late last season resulting in an ultimate that he could return to the Ukraine national team as starting quarterback or he would be charged for tax evasion, a charge many said was fabricated.

Fast forward to this week and Tyshchenko has continued to seek permission to leave the country but the government has been firm in their refusal.     The IFAF has distanced itself from the situation rarely commenting, but more and more voices outside of football have began to call for the international governing body to step in; while others have called on US President Aubrey J. Parker to take action.

GM PANCHO TAKES FLAK FOR NOT SIGNING 4TH ROUND PICK GALEN ZHANG!

With the HIFL rookie contract signing deadline having come and gone, fans and experts around the league were stunned when Linebacker Galen Zhang was left unsigned thus making the 4th round draft pick a free agent.

Apparently GM Pancho and the Alabama organization did not intend to let the Miami of Ohio product slip through the cracks, because the team did attempt to submit the contract to the league office twelve hours after the deadline, but by then it was too late.

Zhang took to social media to discuss the events that lead to his unexpected free agency saying:
"It has been a very emotional week, man. When I fell to the 4th round I felt like I was being slept on, I was mad I was scared, it was tough but when I heard my name called and Alabama took me I was over the moon, best moment of my life. ...then I watch them start signing other guys they took after me, and I'm just confused but I knew it was coming but my agent just kept telling me they hadn't reached out yet to get our signature on the rookie deal, then the deadline comes and goes and I'm unsigned, all the sudden that uncertainty and fear is back, I'm like why don't they want me?!  ...and then I get the call that the contract is done, but it was too late, so its been a freaking whirlwind, man."

Zhang went on to add that he would give Alabama a chance to make things right when free agency resumes, but clearly the 25 year old could have interest from other teams as well.

"BLACK DEATH" JAMES WALLACE TO BE BOYCOTTED BY AGENTS AFTER MAKING YET ANOTHER ILLEGAL CONTRACT OFFER!

SAN ANTONIO -- Despite signing an intriguing pair of FemFL stars on day one of post-draft free agency, GM Black Death rocked a few boats by offering contracts initially that would violate the league's minimum salary rules in future years; while the offers made GM BD miss out on some targets, he managed to salvage others by amending his offers that were not submitted via text, however now with day 2 underway Agents are less tolerant of such behavior and GM BD has done it again offering at least one player a contract worth below veteran minimum for more than the rookie year of the deal.

Now GM BD will be forced to sit out day 2 of free agency and hope that he can repair the relationship with the Agents while trying to fill out his roster in a make or break off-season.

FORMER INDY SPEED GUARD, GARY LEFTHAND SIGNS DEAL WITH CHARLOTTE, AS MORE RUMORS OF TAMPERING BEGIN TO EMERGE!

CHARLOTTE -- Earlier this week a report that Metro Buyers, the general manager of the Indianapolis Speed was seeking tampering charges against a HIFL club for reportedly attempting to sign guard Gary Lefthand who was under contract with the PFL's Indianapolis Speed club.     Later that same day, the HIFL GM Union launched a formal investigation into allegations as well; and GM Union president / GM Rep Pancho Libre headed up the investigation himself.   Before the investigation concluded, Indianapolis shockingly released Lefthand without much explanation but now we are getting clarity on the situation.

A source close to the Indy Speed revealed that Lefthand, who represents himself instead of having a traditional agent, refused to work with GM Buyers to out who exactly had contacted him.   This obstructed the investigation and made it virtually impossible to confirm, which left GM Buyers fuming.  The former HIFL head coach and college coach decided to release Lefthand as a result of his resistance and obstruction, ridding himself of the problem, but also letting the alleged tampering go unpunished.

With reports that the Charlotte Crows have come to an agreement with Lefthand this afternoon, many have assumed that GM Lane and his Queen City Black Birds where the initial party all along, but the football world may never know for sure.

HIFLPA FED UP WITH GM'S OFFERING ILLEGAL CONTRACTS;  THREATENING BOYCOTTS, HOLD OUTS, AND MORE!

This morning, HIFLPA President Elvis Edward released a statement on behalf of the entire players' union saying:

"This off-season the players, owners, and GM's agreed to a new CBA that raised the veteran minimum salary to $1MM per season.  As defined for the past 16 years in the HIFL, a "veteran" player is anyone who has one year of service time or more, meaning that any player who is no longer a first-year rookie is considered a veteran in terms of contracts and salaries.    Despite this change to the CBA, players have seen multiple offers this off-season from multiple teams offering contracts that would violate the new CBA's veteran salary rules.   So far the league has refused to punish these organizations for these contracts which are both insulting and illegal by the GM-ratified Collective Bargaining Agreement.

With the league failing to step in at this time, we as a union must come together and take matters into our own hands.

GM's be warned, illegal contract offers will not only result in a refusal to sign, but potentially much much more dire consequences.  Whether it is a fellow player holding out in solidarity, players requesting trades, or an agent boycott, we will stop this behavior from these reckless general managers.  GM Pancho, as the GM Rep we expect you to educate your constituency just as we have done with our own but clearly at this time, you have not."
